A junk car's value depends on the vehicle being offered, not a universal price list. Its year, make, model, condition, remaining components, pickup location and paperwork all help determine what a buyer will offer. The most useful estimate is a current quote for your car as it sits.
Get a vehicle-specific junk car offer.
Identify the actual vehicle. Start with its VIN, year, engine, trim and drive layout. Use the model guides below for details that a generic calculator can miss.
Describe what works and what is unknown. Separate a confirmed failure from an undiagnosed symptom. Include all damage and missing parts in the same description, rather than quoting the car before and after different repairs.
Request comparable whole-car offers. Use the same condition, included components, ownership documents and pickup location for each buyer. An estimate for a roadworthy car or a yard-delivered shell answers a different question.
Calculate what remains for you. Record the offered amount minus seller-paid collection, release or other agreed transaction charges. Keep that net comparison separate from an advertised maximum or a buyer's possible parts revenue.
There is no defensible national payout for every car of a given age or weight. A repair bill is not automatically a dollar-for-dollar deduction from a running-car estimate, and an online calculator is not a binding purchase offer. Ask which assumptions the buyer has actually priced.
These selected partner records were marked completed. They illustrate individual recorded offers, not a price schedule for other vehicles.
2005 Chevrolet Impala, Florida: recorded offer of $515; record marked completed August 2026.
2013 Mercedes-Benz E, Texas: recorded offer of $1,155; record marked completed August 2026.
2011 Volkswagen GTI, Florida: recorded offer of $1,530; record marked completed July 2026.
These are not averages, guaranteed payouts or statements of seller net payment. The examples do not establish the vehicles' mechanical condition or eligibility to sell without a title. A matching model name is not enough to apply one of these amounts to your car.
Identity: Year, make, model and mileage. Correct a mistaken model or trim before comparing offers.
Mechanical condition: Whether it starts and drives, known failures and any diagnosis. A running engine does not necessarily mean the car can be driven.
Completeness: Disclose missing engine, transmission, wheels or other major components.
Damage: Describe collision, flood or fire history and the visible condition.
Pickup: ZIP code, where the car sits, whether it rolls and steers, and access restrictions.
Documents: Title availability, ownership situation and any lien. Confirm requirements before arranging collection.
Request quotes close together using one consistent description. Ask each buyer to confirm the payment amount, whether pickup is included, payment method, offer expiration and what could cause an adjustment. A headline “up to” amount is not a quote for your car.
Keep written terms. If the vehicle's condition or pickup circumstances change, tell the buyer before collection. For a fuller comparison checklist, see how to compare junk car buyers.
Neither action guarantees a better overall result. Before repairing solely to sell, compare the full repair cost with an as-is offer and realistic sale options. Before removing a component, ask how its absence would affect the whole-car offer and pickup arrangements.
A repair quote is not the same as the amount a buyer will subtract for a fault. If you are dealing with a known failure, review our guides to selling a car with a blown engine and selling a car with transmission problems.
No universal minimum follows from our recorded examples. A $515 offer for one Impala does not establish a floor for another vehicle. Request a current quote and read any advertised minimum's conditions.
Our selected records include offers above those thresholds, but they do not show how frequently those amounts occur. Your vehicle needs its own assessment. Our cash for junk cars page discusses these payout questions.
A vehicle can still attract an offer when it does not run. The failure, overall condition and collection requirements matter. Use our non-running car guide to prepare an accurate description.
Gather the vehicle and pickup details, then request your junk car quote. Compare the complete terms before deciding.
Compare the configuration, condition and selling considerations for your vehicle.
